FAL AND HELFORD SPECIAL AREA OF CONSERVATION

The Fal Estuary and Carrick Roads are designated as a Special Area of Conservation in accordance with the Habitats Regulations.

Falmouth Harbour Commissioners are members of the SAC Management Forum which is a group of Relevant Authorities who meet regularly to discuss issues affecting the management of the SAC.

The regulations require that the regular activities within the SAC are managed in accordance with an approved management plan and that occasional activities (such as hull cleaning) that are likely to have an effect on the integrity of the SAC are subject to an appropriate assessment to determine whether they can be safely undertaken.
